How I came across "My Agenda"

I first discovered Dorian Electra through their collaboration with Kero Kero Bonito & S3RL (which are some great musicians that have captured my heart over the years) in the fall of 2021. The collab was a remix of one of Dorian's songs (M'lady) & it was a bop! Although I've seen Dorian's name every now and again in the hyper-pop bubble, I've never given them a listen. It wouldn't be until I learned about Dorian's collab with Rebecca Black on the "Edgelord" mv that the artist would capture my attention again. From there, I decided it was only fair to check out the rest of their new album. And I'm so glad I did because it quickly became one of my top favorites!

Why "My Agenda" Stuck w/Me

Just like many fans, the concept of "My Agenda" was extremely relatable to the kind of crowd I was surrounded by in middle school. As a result of being chronically online all the stinkin' time, I, unfortunately, spent a lot of time around online incels, edgelords, anti-SJWs, and so on as a kiddo. So, getting to hear an album have so much fun picking on these dudes was everything 😩👌. And as someone who has internalized a LOT of the homophobia and general negativity from these internet subgroups, it was therapeutic listening to this campy & gay af album embracing queerness in spite of these cynical ppl 🌈

---

I wasn't hearing anything like "My Agenda" before (and I have yet to hear anything like it), so it's been absolutely groundbreaking for me! It would quickly find a place in my heart as I played through each of these tracks, like, a trillion times. "My Agenda" would also be fundamental in me exploring my queerness more openly. Ever since listening to "My Agenda", I've been deep in exploring my gender identity & gender expression - whether it's wearing fun makeup looks, styling my clothing, or even experimenting with pronouns. I've been doing all of it without feeling bound by chains and it's been a great feeling! I haven't felt joy like that in a while.

Wrap Up

It's pretty weird how a hyper-pop album has been this influential in shaping who I am, but I guess that's the power of music! And another exciting thing is I started making my own music thanks to the following discussed (& for going to a Dorian Electra concert this year)! Overall, I haven't been this in tune with myself for such a long time, and I have this album to thank! I understand all of this could look weird outside looking in, but it is what it is :] I'm excited to continue exploring my queerness, my creativity, and myself in general - and I can't wait to see what else Dorian makes in the future! 💚⚔

My Agenda World Tour 2022 @ Chicago Metro!

Fun fact: I've never attended a concert before this year. Well, I've never attended an in-person concert (I ended up attending a virtual concert during quarantine for BlackPink LOL). So going to the Dorian Electra - My Agenda Tour was my first time going to a live concert. And man, it was such a great experience! Not only were the performances AMAZING, but the fans I got to interact with were so wholesome and cool. I've never been in a big space where there were so many queer people with similar music tastes, fashion, interests, and experiences. It was SO liberating being at this concert. I could cry thinkin' about it 🥲 It was the best first concert I could have & I'm always smiling thinking back to this wonderful experience 🥺❤
